Our adrenal glands sit on top of each of our kidneys are the “first responders” to stress. When a stress signal is sent down from the brain – whether it’s mental, emotional, or physical in nature – our adrenals send out cortisol in response. This response is normal as our bodies are built to withstand occasional stressors. However, when the stress we experience occurs for long periods of time, our adrenal glands can get tired out and stop producing sufficient amounts of cortisol. This state is called Adrenal Fatigue, and when we experience it, we can really feel “off.”
Some of the most common signs and symptoms of adrenal fatigue include:
– Chronic fatigue
-Low sex drive
-Reduced ability to tolerate stress
-Weight gain (especially around the mid-section)
-Sleep disturbances (often between 2.00-4.00am)
-Poor exercise tolerance
-Sore muscles and joints
-Irritability
-Disregulated blood sugar/feeling shaky between meals
The DUTCH Adrenal test provides an in-depth analysis of your adrenal function, DHEA, cortisol and cortisone output.
